is having a bank collection worse than a utility when looking for loan?

i have 4 collections totaling about 200 dollars… I just found out i had one bank collection $47 that i never knew(i closed the account) and i cant get refinanced or get a student loan…my collections totaled aren’t high.I heard if you have a low amount of collections less then $500 total dont worry about them becuase they can hurt you more then help you. that they get forgiven after 7 years anyways… but the question is …is the bank collection hurting me more then the utilities as far as getting a loan?

thanks
anybody ???

  1. DAS says:
They are probably weigh the same, because they are both negatives and should be paid off if you are trying to acquire credit. There is no way to tell which one outweighs the other one. You will have to play russian roulette on that one.
