Making Money In The Navy – N-FAQs 17

www.theandysan.com In this week’s N-FAQs, we look at how much money you can make while in the Navy! Question hi i have a friend he plans on joining the navy he told me that the recruiter told him that he would make 30000 a year starting off so about 1400 every two weeks is this true my friend is doing this only for the money he thinks navy is like his mill ticket lol but i think the recruiter only told him the good can u tell me some things that the recruiter wouldnt tell him Response: Thanks for the email! Sorry it took me a bit to answer this question, but I did some research to come up with my answer. The truth is that unless he’s becoming an officer, there’s no way that he’ll be making that much money starting out. Just google 2011 military pay chart to see how much each rank makes. Of course, he could make more than that depending on how many allotments he has. Generally speaking, an allotment is additional income that is based on certain circumstances and criteria. Some examples include allotments for housing, food, being away from your spouse, being out to sea, knowing a foreign language, debt relief, and so on. Also, if you’re married and living with your spouse, your housing & food allotments increase quite a bit. As far as what the recruiter won’t tell him, well that depends on what rate your friend’s picking and how much the recruiter knows/is willing to tell. Something that I’ve learned is that every situation is different, so even if he has an honest

  3. AndySan says:
@MrChestypuller1775 – Oh! I was wondering if you were just messing with me, haha!!

I’m not too familiar with how the Marines do things so I can’t help you there. Best bet is to call up a recruiter and see what the say.

@AndySan im joining the marine corps but i want to be on a ship lol ima try and find a mos that allows me to do something with ships
  5. AndySan says:
    @MrChestypuller1775 – ಠ_ಠ

Yes. Not yet. In that order ;)

  6. MrChestypuller1775 says:
@AndySan in the navy, do you go on ships? have you been on ships?
  7. AndySan says:
@katsoup00 – So far, I’ve just been stationed in Chicago & San Diego.
  8. katsoup00 says:
Where have you traveled recently,in the Navy?
  9. AndySan says:
@KyleIsBestess – Yeah. Well, maybe not immediately after. When you get out of boot camp.
  10. KyleIsBestess says:
@Andysan Are you allowed to have a cell phone after boot camp?
  11. AndySan says:
@coke0fan – I haven’t seen any females getting put down or anything. If something like that happened, it would (and should) get reported and the offenders will go see the old man (aka go to Captain’s Mast).

There’s too many variables to say which rates get the most shore duty since it’s all ultimately based on the needs of the Navy. I’d look on About.com’s Navy page, which has A TON of information!

Do females get disrespected at all? or looked down on?
what jobs are most likely to get shore duty and rarely ship tours?
  13. AndySan says:
    @maximus112292 - No prob!
  14. maximus112292 says:
@AndySan Sweet, I’ll check it out. Thanks again, man. You’ve been a big help to me throughout this.
  15. AndySan says:
@maximus112292 – I dunno how much it is when the Global feature is activated, but my last bill was about $90 USD. Not bad considering that I have unlimited data and texting and 450 minutes a month of talk time, which if your friends & folks are on Verizon then you don’t use those minutes at all. It’s great man!!
  16. maximus112292 says:
@AndySan Thanks, I’ve been looking all over for a global plan but couldn’t really find anything. About how much does it cost per month?
  17. AndySan says:
@wenk47 – It mostly depends on how much money I have and what’s going on, but most of the time I’m either online at a Starbucks or walking around town. If I need to go someplace out of walking distance, then I take the bus/train. There’s really no need to own a car in San Diego, especially since the traffic can get brutal at times.
  18. AndySan says:
@lmaolawlzhaha – Yes, I am currently in the US Navy. If you want to learn more about the Navy, search my channel for my N-FAQs playlist (updated every Thursday).
  19. AndySan says:
@maniacchris – Yeah, it’s possible that the recruiter lumped in the monetary value of the benefits along with the salary to “sweeten the deal”.
  20. wenk47 says:
hey andysan, i wonder what do you do during your free time?? do you go to different places in san diego?? do you walk or rent a car?? and can you take college credits while on fleet??
  21. lmaolawlzhaha says:
hey you were in the navy? or are in the navy? can you give me any details about being in the navy? i’m going tomorrow to meet with a recruiter and i’m really nervous.
  22. maniacchris says:
The recruiter was probably including benefits in addition to the yearly salary.
  23. AndySan says:
@maximus112292 – I know Verizon has one. That’s why I got the Droid 2 Global, since it can be unlocked for use around the world.
  24. AndySan says:
@EAKLEY – Either put it in the comments or send me a personal message on YouTube.
  25. maximus112292 says:
Do you know of any cell phone carriers that have global plans?
