Look in the yellow pages under Bankruptcy, or Debt consolidation, and call your state bar association for referrals of lawyers/attorney’s names. Sorry, you said Look FOR. Ok, they should have the same goals and values you do, ie. not talk you into or out of bankruptcy – they should just provide the facts and let you decide what is your choice. Also compare fees – these can vary – and make sure they itemize what the fees include, and what they don’t include. Also, do they help you reestablish credit?

The bankruptcy lawyer knows all the law and this is what they do for a living. You should find out how long they have been in the business. Someone that will help you and only look out for your interest and their pocket book. If you’re not sure you can always call your bar association for references.
